Thyme
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is a small, evergreen shrub of the Lamiaceae family that grows in the Mediterranean and various regions of Europe and Asia. Dried thyme is obtained by drying the leaves and flowers of the plant, which allows the preservation of its characteristic strong, spicy aroma and taste. The preserved spice offers the same taste and aromatic qualities that fresh thyme provides, while being convenient for storage and long-term use.
Thyme is known for its slightly bitter and spicy notes, which give an exceptional aroma to dishes. It is often used in Mediterranean and oriental cuisine, as an addition to meat dishes, soups, stews, sauces and marinades. Thyme is also a main ingredient in seasonings for roasted meat and fish, as well as in various dishes with potatoes and vegetables.
Besides being a spice, dried thyme also has traditional medicinal uses, thanks to its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties. Thyme is used to make teas and infusions that are recommended for relieving coughs and colds, as well as strengthening the immune system.
Dried thyme is extremely aromatic and adds an intense flavor, making it ideal for preparing various sauces, soups, and meat or fish dishes. It also combines perfectly with other spices such as rosemary, oregano, savory, and garlic.
